Meet the Staff

Jane Rea - Manager, Owner and Safeguarding Officer

Jane owns and manages The Curious Goose. She has worked in early years education and childcare since 1990. She is a qualified teacher, and holds Early Years Qualified Teacher status. She has been a childminder, Ofsted inspector and local authority adviser (for Devon and Hillingdon, London) and contributes to  early years staff training and development through Future Creative.  Jane manages the nursery staff and oversees the legal and health and safety requirements ensuring they are adhered to and every standard is met.  She leads curriculum planning and co-ordinates record keeping. Jane is the nominated person for all safeguarding issues. In addition Jane works with the children on a daily basis.

 
 

 

 

Cat Jones - deputy Manager, SENCO and Early Communication and Language Lead Practitioner

Cat joined our team with a wealth of knowledge and experience from her previous position. She has Early Years Professional Status and previously ran the Pre-School room at a nursery in Plymouth. Cat is the nursery SENCO overseeing issues related to those children with additional needs and the nursery lead for communication and language. In her role as Deputy she is also Jane's right-hand-women in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the nursery.

Isobel Burley- Nursery Teacher

Isobel is a qualified teacher and an experienced Early Years practitioner.  She is a Key Worker to a number of children.  Her special interests are Maths and music and we have benefitted from her extensive repertoire of number rhymes. (And she sings in tune unlike the rest of us!)  

Carrie-Louise Midgley

Carrie came to us as a newly qualified Level 3 prctitioner and is quickly building her skills and experience.  Carrie is a Key worker and works across the nursery indoors and out. 

Students and apprentices

We also occasionally have students and apprentices helping us out at the nursery as we like to support the next generation of early years qualified staff and teachers. Students and apprentices are all fully vetted and monitored through the colleges they attend. These changing faces allow the children to get used to building new relationships and also allows us to benefit from a wide range of skills and experience in our staff team.

Key Workers

Each child is allocated a 'Key Person' when they join the nursery.  The  key worker is responsible for monitoring and documenting development and planning for your child's learning. Your child's key worker will always be on hand to discuss your child's development with you. Private appointments can be arranged, or you can speak to them informally when dropping off or collecting your child. For more information on the role of your child's key worker, please speak to the team.

Staff Qualifications and ratios

All full time staff are qualified to at least level 3 and have current first aid certificates. Both Jane and Cat are graduate level Early Years teachers. All staff and volunteers are checked through the DBS authorities, they then go through a full induction process to make sure everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities within the team.

All staff and volunteers have specific job descriptions to enable them to carry out their job to the best of their ability. Annual appraisals and regular supervision meetings contribute to a culture dedicated to training and improving performance.

Ratios - the required ratios are 1:4 for 2 year-olds and 1:8 for children of 3 and 4. At Curious Goose we like to keep our ratios low as we feel that more opportunity for children to interact in smaller groups and to have more adult attention vastly benefits their learning.
